Description
Appearance: The Armadillidium officinalis, commonly known as the Greek Pillbug, is a fascinating isopod species characterized by its ability to roll into a near-perfect sphere when threatened. These pillbugs have a smooth, oval-shaped body that can reach up to 2 cm in length. Their exoskeleton is typically grey or brown, providing excellent camouflage in their natural habitat.
Habitat and Care: Native to the Mediterranean regions of Greece, Spain, and France, the Greek Pillbug thrives in moist environments with plenty of organic matter. In captivity, they require a habitat that mimics their natural surroundings. Provide a bio-active substrate, sphagnum moss, and leaf litter to create a humid microclimate.
Care in Bio-Active Terrarium: Greek Pillbugs are ideal for bio-active terrariums, serving as excellent clean-up crew members. They help maintain a healthy ecosystem by breaking down decaying organic material and waste. To thrive in a bio-active setup, ensure they have access to a constantly damp and humid microclimate. They prefer slightly drier setups but must have access to moist hide areas. Regularly provide them with a diet of nutritious vegetables, fruits, and insect food to keep them healthy
