Dyeing Poison Dart Frog

Dendrobates Tinctorius (Cobalt)

One of the larger dart frogs, ‘Tincs’ as they are sometimes known are an incredibly variable species. They are a hardy dart frog, and ideal for less experienced keepers.

Description

Please read about our minimum standards and why we use them – it’s really important!

Feeding the Poison Dart Frog

Unlike larger species of frog that will eat anything they can fit in their mouths, dart frogs require particularly small foods. Fruit flies, micro crickets, bean weevils and other tiny insects should be offered at least once a day, although if kept in a bioactive setup they will forage for springtails and other small items amongst the leaf litter. Food must be dusted with a good multivitamin/multimineral powder.

Housing the Poison Dart Frog

As a rainforest species, high humidity is an essential for these frogs. A 60cm glass terrarium with plenty of ventilation works very well, especially when kept in a naturalistic fashion. Hygiene is vitally important with amphibians, and the enclosure should be regularly cleaned out and disinfected with a reptile safe disinfectant.
