Mealworms are a very popular food for insectivorous species of reptiles, amphibians, invertebrates, birds and mammals. Mealworms have a tough exoskeleton so it is important that the mealworm is well fed so that it makes them more nutritious. Not suitable for very young lizards as they can be hard to digest.  All life stages of mealworm can be used as a food.

We feed our store bred bearded dragons and leopard geckos on calci worms as part of their varied diets and are very proud of the condition of our animals. Calci worms are the larvae of the black soldier fly (Hermetia illucens). The larvae and adult flies are eaten by many species. They are know as calci worms due to their high calcium content.  Calci worms are very good for bulking up young or underweight animals.

Tropical Grey Woodlice

A tropical species of woodlouse (Porcellionides pruinosus) that grows to around 10mm long.

They can be used as a food for smaller species of reptile and amphibian in forest type set ups. They eat any type of organic material and in the right bio-active set-up, they will breed prolifically and provide an ongoing food source as well as serving as part of the clean-up gang to consume waste and recycle nutrients.

Giant Orange Woodlice

Giant Orange Woodlice (Porcellio laevis) are one of the larger species of isopod commonly used as terrarium custodians or 'clean-up crew' and live and breed well in bio-active set-ups. As adults, they may attain a length of up to 18mm long.

Giant Orange Woodlice are also useful as a livefood for many reptiles and amphibians and have the advantage of a high calcium content due to their calcareous exo-skeleton.

You will always receive enough isopods to start your own culture.

Pete's Herbivore Salad Mix

Pete's Herbivore Salad Mix is grown especially for reptiles who require a higher fibre content in their greens than are found in conventional supermarket salads. Our bearded dragons are raised on this in store and eat the variety of leaves included in the mix very keenly. Salad may be packed separately from other items.

Description

Baby bearded dragons have an incredibly fast growth rate in their first few months of life, so it is recommended that their diet should be 80% livefoods and 20% greens. Good habits formed now will last for the life of your pet, so it’s very important to offer as many different foods as possible so that your grown up dragon doesn’t become a fussy eater.

Offering lots of different food items gives your baby beardie the opportunity to explore different tastes, textures and hunting techniques. The livefoods on this list have all been selected to be ideal for the first six months of your baby dragon’s life, so do try to make sure that your dragon has the chance to try several different types. When you add lots of different types of salad to the diet, your baby dragon will be set up for a long, healthy and happy life!
