Bearded Dragons

Bearded Dragons: Your Friendly Pet Lizards

These captivating reptiles are more than just pets—they’re family members. Let’s delve into the intriguing world of these scaly companions and explore why they’re a favourite among reptile enthusiasts.

Habitat and Range

In the wild, they roam across vast stretches of Australia. Their preferred habitats include warm, arid regions such as deserts, subtropical woodlands, savannas, and scrublands. While they bask in the sun to regulate their body temperature, they’re also skilled burrowers, seeking refuge underground during extreme heat or to evade predators.

Omnivorous Appetites

Beardies are not picky eaters. Their strong jaws can crush hard-shelled insects like beetles, and they happily munch on leaves, flowers, and fruits. . A varied diet ensures their well-being and vitality.

Communication and Behaviour

The iconic “beard” under their chin isn’t just for show—it’s a communication tool. When threatened, a bearded dragon puffs out its beard, making itself appear larger. Colour changes and head-bobbing convey dominance or submission. These lizards are territorial, and adult males may display aggression to defend their turf or vie for a female’s attention.

  • High Red Bearded Dragon: Males can grow up to 60 cm (24 inches), while females reach around 51 cm (20 inches). Their vibrant red coloration adds to their allure. We breed many of these in store.

  • Rankins Dragon (Lawson’s or Pygmy Dragon): Smaller than their bearded cousins, these dragons rarely exceed 30 cm (12 inches) in length. Found in Queensland, Australia, they were officially recognized as a species in 1985.
