This habitat kit has been created using all our experience of keeping crested geckos and extensive product knowledge; it has been designed specifically to give your new pet lots of space to move, and to make sure that they have a good temperature gradient and access to low levels of UV. Using our habitat kit for your crestie will make sure that your pet lives a long and happy life!
The terrarium we use is a great entry level enclosure for this species of gecko. Large enough to keep an adult happy, a baby gecko will be just as happy with the large amount of space available to them. With the speed of growth of young geckos, they will appreciate the extra space to climb and jump, and have no problems finding their food in this terrarium.
The compact top included holds both the heat lamp and the UV light that your gecko needs; as a crepuscular gecko they do not need the high levels of UVB that a day active, basking lizard does, but they benefit enormously from access to low levels of UVB. The bulb provided supplies enough UV to reach the levels of UV to create a Ferguson Zone of 1, perfect for the dawn and dusk active crested gecko. When the bulbs are switched off at night your gecko will experience a temperature drop in the same way that they would in the wild. In order to stop the temperature from dropping too low, a heat mat is provided which is controlled by a thermostat.
The heat mat that is provided as part of this habitat kit works best when affixed to the outside of the terrarium on the same side as the heat bulb. As heat mats work through glass, this provides a gentle heat gradient from one side of the habitat to the other, with the heat bulb in the compact top providing a vertical one. The self adhesive backing on the mat ensures a secure, safe method of fixing the mat to the terrarium without putting your new pet in any danger of coming into contact with either the surface of the mat or any glue used to hold it in place.
The thermostat included with this habitat kit is a basic on/off model, with LED lights as power and heating indicators. All reptiles benefit from a temperature drop at night, and this unit makes sure that the temperature never dips below the set levels. Using this thermostat makes sure that, even if your heat lights fail, the temperature in the vivarium will never drop below nighttime levels; it also ensures that there is no power wasted by running a heat mat when it isn’t necessary.
One of the most important items of equipment in all of reptile keeping is the digital thermometer! The thermometer that we include with this habitat is reliable, robust and includes a hygrometer, to measure humidity. As a forest living gecko, it’s a very good idea to keep an eye on the humidity levels within your setup; too low, and your gecko may have trouble shedding. We have been using these units for years now, both in store and personally – and we think that they are just right for keeping track of the temperatures and humidity in your pets’ enclosure.
Should you require a stand for this terrarium, the model we have available is specifically designed to go with your new habitat kit. It is strongly built, easy to assemble, and gives lots of space to store all the spare equipment and foods that you will need to keep your leopard gecko healthy and happy. Featuring smoked glass doors with interior shelves, it’s a sturdy piece of furniture that will still be looking good for years to come.
