Mealworms – Care, Feeding & Product Information
Mealworms are the larval stage of the Mealworm Beetle. They come in two sizes: mini (10–15mm) and standard (20–30mm). Keepers choose them because they offer a reliable food source for many insect‑eating reptiles, amphibians, invertebrates, birds, and mammals. Mealworms have a tough exoskeleton, so you must feed them well to increase their nutritional value. Avoid feeding them to very young lizards, as they can be harder to digest. You can use every life stage of the mealworm as food.
We source our livefoods from the UK’s leading insect producer, who has bred high‑quality bugs for over 25 years.

Caring for Mealworms & Gut Loading
Keep in a well‑ventilated tub with plenty of floor space, such as a flat faunarium. Add 2cm of dry bug grub to act as both food and substrate. Provide a small amount of fruit or vegetables—carrot, apple, or potato—to supply moisture. Maintain their temperature between 20°C and 25°C.
When you feed your pet, dust the mealworms with a vitamin/mineral supplement and a calcium supplement.
Feeding Mealworms to Wild Birds
Live mealworms offer excellent protein and moisture, making them a fantastic food for garden birds. Robins, thrushes, and other species will visit quickly once you put mealworms out.
They help birds maintain weight through winter. In spring, parent birds work hard to feed their chicks, so you can support them by offering a bowl of mealworms.
