Before you buy your pet reptile

Questions we will ask you when buying an animal

When you decide to take on a new pet, you want to have a happy, healthy animal that thrives in your care. You’re buying years of companionship, not just a load of stuff!

Well, that’s what we want, too. We work really hard to make sure that we’re giving the best advice so that it makes your job as the new caretaker of your pet as easy as possible. That’s not just a legal responsibility, but a moral one too.

Part of that process is making absolutely certain that their new house (whether sold by us or not) is suitable for their long term care. In order to find out, we need to ask lots of questions. We need to know:

What size (length, depth and height) and type is the vivarium/ terrarium do you have?

How are you heating the vivarium?

What type of lighting are you using?

How are you measuring temperature?

And most importantly, of course:

What temperatures are you getting (warmest, coolest day and night)?

You may not have realised how important these questions are, but honestly? They’re vital! All the creatures we sell have their own very specific requirements for heat, humidity, space, diet, supplementation, even decor; if these requirements aren’t met, then your animal may well survive but we’re aiming quite a bit higher than that.

We want to see a happy and healthy animal that has a great relationship with their carer – you! We think it’s really important that you have the right pet that thrives in your care. Their health and well being relies on the answers to those questions above, and we need your help to make sure that everything is in place and working well before you take your new pet home.

It’s teamwork – will you help us?
