One year ago we made the big move from Wood Farm, Oxford to Kidlington – and believe me, that was quite a week! We closed the Wood Farm shop on Monday the 25th of May, and opened our brand new premises on Friday the 29th. In that four days we had moved every stick of furniture, every animal, and every bit of stock.
This is our old shop – closed on 25 May 2015
It was utter chaos on the first day; although the animals were all comfortable in their new vivariums, most of the dry goods were still in the boxes we’d transported them in! Shelving units were almost put together, and the terrible cry of “Where shall I put this?!” could be heard from dawn to dusk.
But we managed to get it all sorted out, with the able help of some good customers who gave up their valuable time to assist in the mammoth task of getting everything put away (thanks you again Justin, Donna, Scott, Daz, Tom, Martin, Gaz). We knew we’d have to be more grown up in how we managed all the stuff that accumulates in a shop like this – whether we have succeeded is a debatable point (as anyone who has seen the office can attest to)!
Our New Kidlington Shop – Opened 29th May 2015
So what has the last year brought us?
We have expanded the boarding side of the business to the point where we could do with another shop just for that, and we are branching out into breeding more of our own animals so that we can guarantee the standard of care they receive from the moment the egg is laid until your pet goes home with you for the first time. Currently the incubators are filled with eggs, and life is going to get a whole lot busier in a month or so!
We are, of course, incredibly grateful that so many of our customers stayed loyal to us and made the move across town to pick up their livefoods and general reptile supplies. The shop wouldn’t be what it is without the support of you, the customers – so a great big thank you from the team here at Evolution!
It’s also nine years since the business started online, a milestone we have marked by revamping the website. Let us know what you think of it – please leave a comment below!
So once again, thank you to all our customers, old and new – and I wonder what the next year will bring…?
