There are two species of locusts we use,

The most common species is Schistocerca gregaria -  Adults are a pinkish brown with dark brown markings, both male and female can fly. The nymphs are yellow, green and black. The Locusts are ground and shrub living creatures from warm climates (sahara, North Africa, Central Asia).

The migratory locust (Locusta migratoria) is the most widespread locust species. It occurs throughout Africa, Asia, Australia and New Zealand. It used to be common in Europe but has now become rare there.

Locusts will keep well for up to 10 days if kept cool 18 to 21°C and left in the tub. Although it is better to keep locusts hot (29 to 32°C), the best way to achieve this is to keep them in a large well ventilated enclosure such as a Lucky Reptile Herp Haven with wheat bran on the floor, egg cartons around the walls and basking light to provide an area of 32°C . If you keep locusts hot fresh greens every day are essential for feed and to prevent dehydration.
