The International Herpetological Society

Tortoise Trust

British Herpetological Society
The British Herpetological Society was established in 1947 with the help of Dr Malcolm Smith. Dr Smith was a physician who practised in the Royal Court of Siam and whilst there studied the native herpetofauna. After retiring, he returned to Britain and developed an interest in our native herptiles. This led him to become the founding president of the BHS as well as author of the book 'The British Amphibians and Reptiles'. Since then the BHS has continued to expand and today has over 600 members
The Herpetological Conservation Trust
The Herpetological Conservation Trust (The HCT) is a UK based charity and charitable company established to further the conservation of amphibians and reptiles (collectively known as herpetofauna).
Amphibian and Reptile Groups of the UK
The Amphibian and Reptile Groups of the UK are a network of local groups involved with the conservation of amphibians and reptiles in the UK. ARG UK is guided by a coordinating panel comprising a chair, vice-chair, treasurer, regional representatives and advisors (some panel members). The panel is assisted by the Widespread Species Conservation Officer. The coordinating panel meets normally twice a year in January/February and October.
